Net Zero NHS Scotland 2025
In 2019, NHS Scotland became the first national health service in the UK to commit to becoming a net-zero organisation. The Scottish Government have also committed to pursuing these goals within their own strategies to achieve a sustainable health service.
NHS Scotland’s climate emergency and sustainability strategy: 2022-2026 sets out plans for NHS Scotland to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and impact on the environment, adapt to climate change. aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2040 and achieve net-zero emissions from its supply chain by 2045.
The strategy outlines the main areas of work being taken forward by NHS Scotland to reduce the negative environmental impacts of healthcare delivery, and to make positive changes to local environments, benefitting the health and wellbeing of local communities as well as improving biodiversity.
NHS Scotland cannot deliver its sustainability aims on its own. Collaboration with local communities, local authorities and other public bodies, third sector organisations and suppliers are crucial to achieve these ambitions.
This conference aims to highlight main areas of work being taken forward by NHS Scotland to reduce the negative environmental impacts of healthcare delivery and highlight the progress Health Boards have made toward net zero across a number of areas.
Delegates will be provided with unparalleled networking opportunities and the chance to discuss the vision and objectives to deliver a net-zero health service by 2040.
