Ronan Doyle

Ronan is Chief Operating Officer for the Sustainable Health Systems Hub and Senior Research Fellow at University of Exeter.

Originally qualified as a mechanical and manufacturing engineer, Ronan worked in for a number of Blue-Chip multinationals including General Electric, Procter & Gamble, Unilever, RMC, Green Isle Foods, Molins ITC and Wyeth Medica. Subsequently he specialised in water and environmental management with a carbon focus and developed a catchment management plan with environmental services for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. He provided technical management services for the School of Biomedical and Biological Sciences for University of Plymouth before moving into the NHS where he worked on integrating the MSK patient pathway. At University of Exeter, he managed an EU carbon reduction project (SHIFFT - sustainable heating: implementing fossil free technologies) in a number of social and healthcare settings across 4 countries. As a national carbon consultant for the Energy Saving Trust, he developed the Welsh Zero Carbon Hub for the Welsh Government.

The Sustainable Health Systems Hub is a consortium of partners and key stakeholders from across the UK. Funded by the UKRI strategic theme ‘Building a Green Future’, it is tasked with helping the NHS to decarbonise patient pathways and become environmentally sustainable.

The hub connects healthcare leaders, key industry partners, patients, practitioners, volunteers and academics from across many health, social, economic and environmental disciplines to create, develop, innovate and implement sustainable health and social care pathways and reduce environmental pollution.

The partners are developing a deployable holistic toolkit which can be used to create and implement emission reduction plans across a range of clinical, health, and social care patient pathways.
