Dr Lucy Smith

Dr Lucy Smith is a Research Fellow and Group Coordinator in the Big Data in Health Group at the University of Southampton. Her research explores how the NHS can respond to climate-related health risks while moving towards more equitable, resilient and low-carbon care.

She contributes to research on climate change and health outcomes, alongside work on climate-health risk prediction, service preparedness and inclusive digital interventions. Her wider research spans health inequalities, multiple long-term conditions, human-centred AI and co-production.

She is particularly interested in anticipatory approaches that protect those most at risk from climate-related harm while reducing avoidable travel, emergency care, hospital admissions and resource use.
