Dr Joseph John

Joseph John is leading a pilot GIRFT workstream designing sustainable care pathways for specific health conditions. This uses the expert-led and data-driven GIRFT approach to co-develop evidence-based guidance with patients and professionals.
Joe is a urology specialty registrar at the University of Exeter and Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. He leads work within the GIRFT programme on using the novel ELLA (Environmental Lessons Learned and Applied) methodology to identify and design recommendations for decarbonising care pathways. He recently completed a PhD about environmental sustainability in healthcare, during which he developed the ELLA methodology.
Joe leads ongoing research on rapidly lowering healthcare's carbon footprint through the GIRFT programme, as part of the UKRI/NIHR funded Exeter University net zero hub.
