Remote Monitoring Technology Trialled for Older Adults
The Integrated Digital Service in Leeds has commenced a trial of remote monitoring technology, aiming to explore its potential in supporting older individuals with health conditions to live independently in their homes.
This initiative, overseen by the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and Leeds City Council, involves a collaboration with technology provider Luscii.
The trial focuses on monitoring individuals with health conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diabetes associated with Hillfoot Surgery, West Leeds Family Practice, and Bellbrooke Surgery.
The monitoring is conducted by a team from Health Innovation Yorkshire and Humber, ensuring the confidentiality of patient information.
The trial, which recently commenced, is expected to continue for several months.
Marsha Showman, Senior Clinical Pharmacist at West Leeds Primary Care Network, explained that the trial assesses the advantages of emerging technology.
She said: “Allowing patients to measure and record key information in the comfort of their own home, saving them time in coming into the GP surgery and hopefully preventing them from attending hospital because they are able to understand and manage their symptoms better.
“We will be able to monitor our patients safely from a distance, and if one of their measurements doesn’t look quite right, we will take the appropriate action.
“We look forward to sharing our learnings and journey with colleagues who are interested in remote monitoring.”
Leonardo Tantari, Chief Digital Information Officer of Leeds City Council and NHS (Leeds) West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative: “Helping patients manage their health better in the comfort of their home is a priority for the city.
“I’m excited to see the learnings from this innovative pilot and hope it helps to meet the needs of the patients involved.”
