North Tees & Hartlepool Awarded NHS Blueprint of the Month
North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust (NTH) has been recognised by the NHS England National Blueprinting programme for its Electronic Observations (eObs) and Early Warning Score (EWS) Sepsis Dashboard, supported by InterSystems TrakCare.
NTH’s blueprint focused on how the trust has successfully implemented eObs across its inpatient wards, which has led to a 36% reduction in sepsis cases over the period 2019-2023. The trust has also seen the time taken by staff to complete observations decrease, while improving overall patient care and experience.
As reflected in the blueprint, critical to the success of the implementation was the access to real time patient data, enabling clinicians to reduce manual checks and prioritise those in greatest need. At the same time, the ability to automate recording and analysis of patient data helps reduce human error and accelerate clinical workflows.
Presented by NTH at the National Blueprinting Steering Group, the blueprint now serves as a detailed best-practice guide that can be replicated and adopted across different NHS organisations to ensure consistency and quality in healthcare delivery.
Marie Collingwood-Graham, digital programme senior project manager, at NTH, said: “This was a great opportunity to celebrate and gain recognition for our trust’s digital transformation. It’s a testament to all staff helping to develop and use our digital systems, and the support of InterSystems TrakCare, which has been instrumental in our success with the blueprint.”
The recognition follows hard on the heels of the recent announcement that NTH has added additional functionality to its InterSystems TrakCare solution to drive efficiencies in its ward admissions processes, while also enhancing patient care.
Colin Henderson, country manager for InterSystems UK&I, said: “We are thrilled to see North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust recognised for their outstanding work.
“The success of their eObs and EWS Sepsis Dashboard highlights the impact that innovative technology and dedicated staff can have on patient care and operational efficiency. We are proud to support NTH in their ongoing digital transformation journey.”
