Asda To Begin Prescription Home Deliveries in UK First
Asda has become the first UK supermarket to launch an online prescription service through their partnership with Pharmacy2U.
The scheme, which has rolled out in 50 stores across the UK, will allow Asda customers to order prescriptions to their door free of charge.
Once patients have completed their online order through pharmacy.asda.com, their prescription is sent to their GP for electronic approval.
Pharmacy2U’s clinical team then make all the necessary final checks before dispatching the items directly to the customer’s door.
The service will make deliveries free of charge, using a fully tracked service including delivery notifications and updates.
The partnership aims to make healthcare more accessible
It is hoped that the service, which lets customers make orders at any time 24/7, will enable patients to better access pharmacy services nationwide.
The partnership forms part of Pharmacy2U’s mission to healthcare more accessible, providing choice and convenience for the whole family when managing health and wellbeing.
Pharmacy2U is currently the nominated pharmacy for over 800,000 patients. CEO Kevin Heath said: “At Pharmacy2U, we’re committed to making healthcare easily accessible for the whole family.
We are incredibly proud to have partnered with Asda to now bring our online prescription services to a place of ease for their customers.
“Supermarkets play a huge role in daily life making this a natural, yet exciting next step for us.”
Faisal Tuddy, Head of Pharmacy & Superintendent Pharmacist at Asda, added: “We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our online prescription delivery service with Pharmacy2U.
By launching this platform, we are now able to reach even more Asda customers across the country, some of which may not have an Asda Pharmacy nearby.
“We know how important it is for families to be able to simply access their repeat prescriptions without having to worry. This expansion ensures greater convenience for our patients, who can now easily access these services online.”
This latest partnership comes after the two entities previously partnered in 2023 to roll out a COVID-19 and Flu Vaccination programme across a number of Asda stores.
Now, Pharmacy2U and Asda hope that in offering this service, they will help to relieve pressure on the NHS and GPs.
Pharamcy2U have also recently launched their prescription tracking service
This latest news comes after Pharmacy2U introduced a new, dynamic order tracking service for patients to track their prescription from request to home delivery.
The new service is available on Pharmacy2U’s website and mobile apps, and provides patients with live medicine availability, dynamic estimated dispatch date through the six steps of the order journey and confirm the estimated delivery date/time once dispatched.
Patients will be able to view status updates for their over the course of six stages:
- Stage 1: Awaiting GP approval
- Stage 2: Prescription received
- Stage 3: Clinical review
- Stage 4: Packing
- Stage 5: Order dispatched
- Stage 6: Track delivery
The service aims to empower patients to manage their prescription order in the event of a delay, including the ability to split multiple-item prescriptions or choose to take the prescription to a local pharmacy, whilst remaining a Pharmacy2U patient.
Royal Mail’s Tracked service will facilitate deliveries, now available on for all prescription orders and, wherever possible, reduced packaging to allow for more letterbox deliveries.
CEO Kevin Heath commented: “We are always looking for ways to improve our customer experience for our patients. This new feature will give our patients full transparency of their order progress, flexibility on options should their order be delayed and is accessible across our website and app.
“We are delighted to launch a solution, that will help our patients take greater control of their healthcare and prescriptions and ultimately put the power back into their hands with the ability to track their medication at every possible stage in the journey”.
