How Google Cloud Offers Insight into Home Healthcare Needs
Digital-first home healthcare provider Cera have partnered with Google Cloud to enhance real-time insights and better address the UK’s home healthcare needs.

The partnership allows Cera carers to access advanced insights into patients needs, enabling them to make prompt care interventions when necessary.

Prior to the partnership, the data and insights available to care teams could be up to 24 hours old. Utilising Google Cloud’s technology has enabled carers to access near-instant insights into a patient’s condition, allowing them to act accordingly and appropriately.

Furthermore, the ability to access long-term historical changes to patients’ wellbeing, as opposed to only assessing data from the previous visit, offers greater insights into how their health is evolving and changing over time.

These insights therefore allow carers to make more informed decisions based on a more comprehensive view of the wellbeing of their patients.

Nathan Windle, director of data at Cera, said: “With Google Cloud, the benefits also translate to Cera’s internal product development teams, who can now more rapidly consolidate data from hundreds of sources to develop more advanced data science and machine learning capabilities, bringing products to market more quickly.

With a greater understanding of operational performance enabled by this more advanced approach, Cera can now make quicker and more accurate data-led decisions based on insights, ensuring that both quality of care delivery and new product development is more effective.

Dr Ben Maruthappu, CEO at Cera, also commented: “Our valued partnership with Google Cloud is important to unlocking the potential of data analytics and predictive technologies, driving forward even greater innovation capabilities for Cera. As AI continues to play an increasingly vital role in the delivery of all healthcare, we’re proud to partner with such a well-respected data innovator to help Cera address the care needs of individuals in the UK.”

Currently Europe’s largest provider of digital-first home healthcare, the company will be able to scale their operations further thanks to an advanced data mesh constructed by Google Cloud. It will also enable Cera to better organise and manage data to drive care innovation.

The technology enables better care and reduces pressure on NHS services

Google Cloud’s real-time integration and processing capabilities has transformed the depth of insight available to Cera from operational applications and internal datasets.

Thanks to its new advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities, Cera has better quipped its care teams with the tools to further reduce hospitalisation rates, currently by up to 70%, alleviating capacity pressures on the NHS.

This comes after Cera announced its commitment to delivering five million care visits over the winter in October 2023, which was predicted to save the NHS £100 million as well as reducing hospital waiting times.

Now it is hoped that the advanced insights on offer through Google Cloud will offer better care intervention going forward, further reducing strain and pressure on the NHS.
