Training for Nurses Amplified Through New Lab
The next generation of nurses and healthcare staff are set to benefit from the launch of a new lab at Solent University. How will this help to boost nursing training?
The Human Health Lab has been built with funding from the Office for Students and will be crucial to making sure more world-class nurses bolster NHS workforces across the country.
Unlocking training and career opportunities is the focus of the facility
It includes an innovative Anatomage table and has been designed to mimic a real medical ward, fit with six beds and a nursing station.
The facility adds to a nursing lab that opened in 2018 and signals an ongoing commitment to investment in facilities that champion quality education.
Jan Parker, Head of Social Sciences and Nursing, said: “A degree in nursing is a gateway to a fulfilling career and one which unlocks opportunity and potential.
“The launch of our second Human Health Lab has enabled the university to double the capacity for our simulated learning experiences, which is vital to placement expansion and quality education.”
She continued: “In preparation for real-world learning and experiences, nursing students can access our on-site simulation environments and technologies.”
“In these spaces we can support the development of skills, confidence, and professional competence.”
The university is working to boost collaboration through roundtables
Solent University’s vice-chancellor, Professor James Knowles, hosted a roundtable featuring representatives from some of the region’s foremost community partners, including Solent NHS Trust, Hampshire County Council, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
In addition to allowing leaders to discuss future collaborations, the roundtable showcased how students are gaining practical skills to arm them for real-world NHS settings. Solent University has said it added 121 registered nurses to the NMC’s register last year.
Professor Knowles said: “Solent will play a key role in ensuring that the NHS continues to benefit from talented individuals who want to contribute to its success. Our new Human Health Lab enables us to deliver the highest-quality education for nurses and healthcare professionals.
“To cultivate a world-class workforce for our region and beyond, we work to secure partnerships that will enhance our teaching offer. Our door is always open when it comes to building more important relationships, and we are keen to hear from any healthcare organisation in the region interested in working together to underpin the future of the NHS.”
